• “Stars to Shine” Mentorship Programme Kick-off Ceremony

    “Stars to Shine” Mentorship Programme, organised by Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) is launched this year with the goal of providing newly retired HK athletes (mentees) with an additional avenue of learning through experience sharing and interaction with seasoned retired famous HK athletes who have successfully developed their second career and gained a wealth of working experience (mentors). The approximately 2-year programme received overwhelming feedback and has recruited 16 mentees.

     

    Eight famous retired athletes from different industries have been invited to join the first phrase of the Mentorship Programme as Star Mentors, including, Mr. WONG Kam Po, SBS, MH, Programme Development Executive of SF&OC Sports Legacy Scheme cum Facilitator of the Stars Mentors, Ms. Amy L. C. CHAN, JP, Executive Manager of The Hong Kong Jockey Club cum Headmistress of Apprentice Jockeys' School, Ms. Malina NGAI, JP, Group Chief Operation Officer and Board Member of A.S. Watson Group, Dr. Adam Y. K. LEE, Managing Director of Sunwah Kingsway Financial Services Group Limited of Sunwah Group, Mr. CHENG Ka Ho, MH, Senior Business Development Manager of Hopewell Project Development Limited, Mr. Tony K. T. CHUI, Sports Commentator & Artiste, Ms. Vivian LEE, Founder & Managing Director of ActionHouse International Limited and Mr. Samuel S. Y. YU, Senior Inspector of Hong Kong Police Force.

     

    To officially kick start the Programme, a ceremony has been held today at Hysan Place, with the presence of honourable guests including Mr. Timothy T. T.     HKACEP's Ambassador Programme aims to promote positive attitude to the society by sports ambassadors' sharing of their perseverance athletic stories as a part of an ''Athlete’s Social Responsibility". Over 50 ambassador talks, attracting more than 8000 participants, have been conducted since 2009.

    Our Sports Ambassadors have extended their services from the community and school sector to the corporate setting. They have provided corporations with staff training; by transferring their athlete skills to the workplace; these skills include: “To Strive for Excellence”, “To be Persistence”, “Stress Management under pressure”, “To Dare to Dream” and “Concentration skills”.

  • The Award Presentation on IOC Trophy cum Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme and Sports Legacy Scheme Appreciation Ceremony 2017

    The Award Presentation on IOC Trophy cum Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) and Sports Legacy Scheme (SLS) Appreciation Ceremony 2017 was successfully held on 5 September 2017 at the Harbour Grand Hong Kong. Officiating guests at the ceremony included Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), The Honourable Mr. LAU Kong Wah, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, other distinguished guests, athletes and mass media representatives.  

    At today’s presentation ceremony, Mr. Timothy FOK GBS, JP, President of SF&OC conferred the IOC Trophy to the MTR Corporation Limited (MTR), the only IOC Trophy awardee recipient in East Asia Region#.  In this year, it is the first time that the IOC Trophy was awarded to an organization instead of individuals.  A total of 14 IOC Trophies under the theme “Sport beyond borders” were sent to NOCs globally in order to honour those contributors who have used sport as a mean to bring positive social impact or to challenge discrimination.  With the mission to facilitate athletes’ career transformation after athletic retirement, the HKACEP (under the auspices of SF&OC) and MTR co-organized the “Life Skills Training Programme” since 2013 that aims to help athletes to go beyond the borders of sports fields and equip them to successfully transforming into the mainstream working field. The Programme offers comprehensive and holistic interventions to equip athletes with essential knowledge and skills as well as to provide professional support for athletes’ integration into the job market. In May this year, the SF&OC and MTR also jointly received the 2016 Association for Talent Development (ATD) Excellence in Practice Honorable Mention Citation Award in regards to the collaboration of the “Life Skills Training Programme” in Atlanta, Georgia, US.

    During the ceremony, the Federation officially introduced that renowned retired cyclist, Mr. WONG Kam Po, joined the Sports Legacy Scheme as Programme Development Executive started from 1st September 2017.  WONG expressed at the event that he will lead the Sports Legacy Scheme coaching team to promote sports to the community and under-privileged students.  The SF&OC also appreciated the continuous support from the sponsors, strategic partners, organizations and employers to the HKACEP and the SLS.  In this connection, the “SLS Excellent Awards For Strategic Partnership” were presented to Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, Lee Hysan Foundation and Sports For Hope Foundation; the “HKACEP Excellent Awards For Education and Development” were presented to Adecco Personnel Limited, EF Englishtown, Hong Kong Police Force (Elite Athletes Strategic Engagement Scheme) and Ryoden Development Ltd.; the “HKACEP Excellent Award For Partnership” was presented to FILA; the “HKACEP Excellent Awards For Supportive Employer” were presented to Cable TV Ltd., DHL Express (HK) Ltd., MTR Corporation Ltd. and New World Development Company Ltd.; the “HKACEP Merit Awards For Supportive Employer” were presented to over 15 supportive employers (see Annex – List of Awardees), in order to recognise for their staunch support to HKACEP & SLS throughout the years.

    Mr. Timothy FOK GBS, JP, President of SF&OC congratulated MTR for being awarded the IOC Trophy, which is a distinctive recognition to the “Life Skills Training Programme” jointly offered by MTR and HKACEP.  Mr. FOK also thanked the staunch support from different HKSAR Government departments, sponsors, partners, corporates and education institutes for enabling athletes to continue to contribute to the society and develop their second career after their athletic retirement through HKACEP and helping under-privileged students and retired or retiring athlete coaches to pursue their dreams through SLS.

    About Sports Legacy Scheme (SLS)

    The Sports Legacy Scheme was first launched in 2012, to help both student and elite athletes who either are planning to retire or have retired to pursue their dreams in sports. Participating athletes of this scheme will become Athlete Coaches to provide sports specific training to under-privileged students, through teaching and spreading the positive values of sports and the spirit of Olympism, they will identify students’ sports talents, and guide students’ discipline and character building. The Scheme has been supporting over 14 schools with over 4,300 under-privileged students since 2012.

  • 2017 Olympism Camp

    Jointly organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (HKSI), the Closing Ceremony of the 2017 Olympism Camp was officially held on 21st July 2017 at the Tai Tam Scout Centre. Officiating guests included Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), Mr YEUNG Tak-keung JP, Commissioner for Sports for Home Affairs Bureau, Mrs Jenny FUNG MA Kit-han BBS JP, Director of Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and Prof. Frank FU, MH, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy.

     

    A new event format was launched for 2017 Olympism Camp, apart from the young athletes from 7 elite sports, student athletes who have participated in “Olympism Education Programme” and “Sports Legacy Scheme” also joined this meaningful camp. The new arrangement offered valuable opportunity for the student athletes to meet and learn from the elite athletes, whilst elite athletes were also given an opportunity to act as role models and ambassadors to inspire the student athletes through demonstrating their devotion towards sports and sharing of their experiences.  

     

    “Olympic Journey”, theme of the 2017 Olympism Camp, offered a mock experience of the whole Olympic Games and delivered the 3 Olympism Values, including “Excellence”, “Friendship” and “Respect”, through various interactive games, team activities, sharing sessions, anti-doping and media interview workshops during the 3-day residential camp. 

     

    Mr. Timothy FOK, President of SF&OC, wished that all the participating athletes could demonstrate the 3 Olympic Values during their daily training and in competitions and to promote sports to general public and motivate others to participate in sports. 

     

    Mrs. Jenny FUNG, Board Director of HKSI, wished that the participants could learn and experience the Olympic Values from the mock Olympic Games and cultivate the Values as their philosophy of life.

     

    Event brief:

    The Olympism Camp is one of the highlighted events jointly organized by SF&OC and HKSI in promoting Olympism and Olympic values, aimed at inculcating athletes the core values of Olympism and further assimilating them into their daily lives. The first Olympism Camp, held in February 2013, was concluded with positive responses from all the parties concerned including athletes, coaches, respective NSAs and Home Affairs Bureau.

    The First-ever Career Exhibition to Athletes was successfully concluded
    with the overwhelming support of corporates to local retired athletes

     

    The first-ever Career Exhibition to local athletes, namely “HKACEP Athletes Career Exhibition” was successfully concluded today (October 16) at Olympic House, Causeway Bay. In order to facilitate athletes’ smooth career transformation upon their athletic retirement as well as to strengthen the connection between athletes and their potential employers, over 20 corporates from different industries, including MTR Corporation Limited, New World Development Company Limited, Hopewell Holdings Limited, and DHL Express (Hong Kong) Limited showed their staunch support in this Exhibition to provide the latest job market information and job opportunities through the provision of career-related seminars and workshops, display of corporates information booth and the newly launched online job seeking platform. 

     

    Mr. Ronnie WONG Man-chiu, JP, Hon. Secretary General of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) thanked the staunch support from different HKSAR Government departments, corporates and education institutes enabling athletes to continue to contribute to the society after their athletic retirement. When organizations are facing talent recruitment challenges, we have obtained a pool of well-trained athletes who are striving hard for opportunities to develop their “second career” after sporting life, through the support of Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme (HKACEP) under auspices of SF&OC.   • SF&OC and MTR Corporation received Silver Award at HKMA Award for Excellence in Training and Development 2016

    Organized by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA), the Award for Excellence in Training and Development 2016 Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 5 September 2016 at the JW Marriot Hotel Hong Kong. The first-ever joint effort between Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP), under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (The Federation) and MTR Corporation Limited (MTR) in skills training category under the theme of From Medals to Business - Life Skills Training Programme’, received the “Silver Award”, “Special Award – Citation for Community Contribution” and      “Best Presentation Award” among 30 corporates from various sectors, which is a distinctive recognition to the programme in supporting retired athletes transformation in skills transfer, retraining to upskill and help them through the transformation from sports fields into the mainstream working field.

    Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Patrick GLENNON, Senior Vice President of the International Olympic Committee Athlete Career Programme (IOC ACP) who travelled across oceans in supporting the Federation. Mr. FOK also thanked the staunch support from the HKSAR Government and MTR in developing a unique and sustainable “Life Skills Training Programme” to equip our local athletes with essential knowledge and skills in the business field for their post-athletic career transition.

  • Athletes Going Beyond the Sportsground: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China partners with Adecco Hong Kong for continued athlete career development

    The “Adecco Support Services Participation Agreement Signing Ceremony” officiated by Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and Mr. Patrick GLENNON, Adecco Senior Vice President of International Olympic Committee Athlete Career Programme (IOC ACP), was held on Monday, 5 September 2016 afternoon at Regal Hong Kong Hotel. This joint collaboration among IOC ACP, Adecco Hong Kong and the Federation would lead to a new stage of the local athletes career programme in coming 4 years.

     

    Athletes inspire and excite the world with their outstanding performance on the field of play – and they are so much more than that. Seeing their commitment to always go for an extra mile, their ability to work as a team and also their can-do attitude, SF&OC, IOC ACP and Adecco Hong Kong are determined to facilitate the integration of elite athletes into the labour market.   • MTR Life Skills Training Workshops - Time Management

    The Life Skills Training Programme jointly presented by Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) and MTR Corporation (MTR) has being launched since June 2013.  The Unit 4 of the programme, “Time Management” was successfully held at MTR Headquarters on Nov 9, 2013.

    The workshop was designed to fuel athletes knowledge on how to manage their own schedules in a timely and efficient manner in which many athletes learnt well that good time management would lead the event a success. Prioritizing tasks according to the urgency and individual’s personal importance is the key to achieve an effective event management.

  • Ambassador Programme: Employees Retraining Board (ERB) Sharing of “Sports in life”

    Under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) was invited by Employees Retraining Board (ERB), to organize “Ambassador Programme” on 1 November 2013. The Sports Ambassador, Mr. LAI Chi-wai, renowned Mountaineering and Climbing athlete, who shared his perseverance story in topic of “Sports in life” to the community at the ERB Service Centre (Kowloon East). During the talk, Chi-wai demonstrated his positive attitude towards life, in particular, how to face with his injury after a serious traffic accident.

    The “Managing Self, Managing Tasks, Managing Others” life skills training workshops, jointly presented by HKACEP and MTR Corporation (“MTR”), has been receiving overwhelming results.  This tailor-made series includes 5 units:

    4)     Time Management
    5)     Presentation Skills – Verbal & Written

  • Sharing of Athlete Interns: Cycling to DHL Logistics Centre

    Supported by DHL, two retired athletes, Michael LO Ting-hin (Artistic Cycling) and Christopher CHEUNG Cheng-woh (Road Cycling) joined the DHL Internship Programme this summer and allocated in the division of Global & Multi-National Customers. It was indeed a valuable opportunity for the two athletes to work in the renowned international corporation, from which they have learnt the importance of time management, communication skills, creative thinking and teamwork in a real-life working environment.

  • The Sports Legacy Pilot Scheme – Rowing Promotional Day

    The two participating schools of the Sports Legacy Pilot Scheme in Tin Shui Wai have joined the Rowing Promotional Day which held by Hong Kong, China Rowing Association on 5th October (Saturday) at Heung To Middle School and Tin Shui Wai Nullah. Students of Heung To Middle School (Tin Shui Wai) and QESOSA Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School joined the promotional day and had so much fun on the rowing activities. The activities included 1-min indoor rowing assessment, first experience of water rowing, rowing exhibition and etc.

  • Ambassador Programme: HKU SPACE Expanding Horizon Talk Series: Achieving Excellence

    In cooperation with HKU SPACE, Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) invited two Sports Ambassadors as guest speakers to present a talk named “Expanding Horizon Talk Series: Achieving Excellence” on 25 June 2013 at HKU SPACE Learning Centre in the United Centre, Admiralty. Our two Sports Ambassadors, Mr. SZE Lui, retired canoe athlete and Ms. CHENG Ka Wing, retired wushu athlete came to share their sports achievements with HKU SPACE students during the talk with an aim to encourage students to well equip themselves to take up any challenges in future.

  • 1st Retired Athletes Career Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2013

    Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) Retired Athletes Career Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held on 27 April 2013 at the Olympic House. Guests including the Hon. MA Fung-kwok, SBS, JP, Legislative Councillor representing the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication Functional Constituency, Mr. Vincent CHIU, Acting Principal Assistant Secretary (Recreation and Sports) of Home Affairs Bureau, Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, representatives of National Sports Associations, education institutions and supporting corporations were invited to officiate at the Ceremony. Over 50 retired athletes were awarded and over 20 attendees received the Career Certificates issued by the Federation.

    Mr. Timothy FOK thanked the education institutions and supporting corporations’ support. He also mentioned that this Ceremony provides an opportunity to allow the potential junior athletes to better understand full-time athletic career path and post-athletic career support. He anticipated that more athletes would strive for the best for Hong Kong in future. 

    The Hon. MA Fung-kwok appreciated this valuable occasion in meeting with the related retired athletes and stakeholders in sports industry. He added that being a Legislative Councillor, he would fight for reasonable resources from the Hong Kong Government for the betterment of the Hong Kong sports development in the long run.
